Cookies

A cookie is a small file a website leaves in your browser so it can recognize your device the next time you turn up. This page lists every one this site sets, along with the handful of similar things stored beside them.

None of it is required

Worth saying first, because it is not always true elsewhere: nothing this site stores is needed for the site to work. Block all of it and every page still loads, every link still works, and both forms still send. What you take away is our ability to count.

Seeing what gets read

Google Analytics sets two cookies, one named _ga and one beginning _ga_, and stores one small item alongside them. Together they let us see how many people visited, which episodes held attention, and roughly where visitors came from. They deal in numbers, not names.

Measuring what we post

The Meta pixel sets a cookie named _fbp and stores a couple of small items recording where you arrived from. These let Meta connect a visit here to what we post on Facebook and Instagram, so we can tell whether any of it reaches people.

Players and forms from elsewhere

The YouTube player on episode pages, the Buzzsprout audio player, and the MailerLite signup form in the footer each set their own cookies once they load, under their own policies. The YouTube player does not load until you press play, so until you do, it sets nothing at all.

There is no cookie banner here

This site is made for a Middle Tennessee audience, and we would rather tell you plainly what is here than put a pop-up between you and an episode. This page is that telling. If you would rather not be counted, the next section is how.

Turning it off

Your browser can block or clear cookies for this site, usually under settings and then privacy. Google publishes a browser add-on that switches off Google Analytics on every site you visit. Meta's ad settings let you limit what the pixel is used for. Any of these stops the counting, and none of them stops the site working.

Changes

We update this page when what the site stores changes, and the date at the top tells you when we last did. What we do with the information itself is covered on the privacy page.
